Frank W. Thompson

Frank William Thompson was born February 2, 1892 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was the son of William and Annie G. Thompson. After graduating from Harvard University in 1916, he attended the Andover Theological Seminary, coming to the Church of Christ, Bedford, in 1920, where he was ordained to the ministry.

Reverend Thompson received his Masonic Degrees in Simon W. Robinson Lodge in Lexington in 1921 and shortly thereafter became Chaplain of that Lodge; a position he held until his death. Brother Thompson provided for religious ceremonies at the American Legion Post in Bedford. He also guided the religious observances of and held membership in Walden Royal Arch Chapter at the Concord Masonic Building. Many of the members of Frank W. Thompson Lodge are members of this Royal Arch Chapter, which is part of the York Rite of Freemasonry.

During World War I he served first with the Medical Corps and later served as the Home Service Chairman of the local Chapter of the American Red Cross, a position he held through World War II. Brother Thompson's civic activities were numerous, including service on the Town Planning Board in Bedford.

In 1946, Rev. Bro. Thompson accepted full Chaplaincy at the Bedford Veterans Administration Hospital, having served the previous fifteen years on a part-time basis. In this position, as in his many other associations, he endeared himself to all with his inspiration and sincerity. When Reverend Brother Thompson spoke, it was from the heart. All who knew him loved and respected him.

While still serving as Pastor Emeritus of the Church of Christ and the Protestant Chaplain of the Bedford V.A. Hospital, he passed away in 1951 at the age of 59 years, saddening the whole community and cutting short a life of service which exemplified our great Fraternity. Frank William Thompson was a friend, a man of God and a Chaplain to all. As one of the Town of Bedford's most prominent members of Freemasonry, we gratefully honor his memory and proudly give our Lodge his name.

Frank W. Thompson Lodge, A.F. & A.M. meets in the annex of the First Church of Christ, 25 Great Road, Bedford, Massachusetts. The Church in which our meetings are held is the same house of worship in which Frank W. Thompson served as Minister. Our Lodge holds a regular stated meeting on the Third Tuesday of each month, excepting the months of July and August. All Masons in good standing are welcome to attend.
